Full or New Moon Strategy First, find the date of either a full or new moon. You can use that alone to increase your fishing catch and game sightings. For even better results, fish or hunt at dawn and/or dusk on a full or new moon. By using the software, you'll be able to work out when moonrise and moon set will be on dates of full or new moon. Fishing at those times will be close to perfect, and you will likely see more game activity as well. But to ensure a maximal conditions, find a day of full or new moon and when the moonrise/set coincides with dawn/dusk. Fish for 45 minutes either side of those points for the best possible results. Overhead and Underfoot Strategy Some theories indicate that hunting is best when the moon is straight up or straight down ("overhead", "underfoot"). Back on the main help page there is an explanation of the "Altitude" calculation inside QuickPhase Pro. When the Altitude is 90 degrees, the moon is straight up. When it is -90 degrees, the moon is straight down. You can also easily see the high point of the day by advancing the hour. To do this, use the single white arrow on the main screen, and watch the Altitude number go up or down. Keep in mind that although the moon will always have a high point (zenith or transit), it likely won't be "straight up" or "straight down". But the zenith is always the point of greatest effect. You might also use this little "cheat-sheet" as a shortcut to finding high (zenith) and low points.
First and Third Quarter Moons produce the most dawn and dusk sightings. During a Full Moon and New Moon, midday has the best action, but especially the Full Moon. A Note: As you can see, there is some overlap in theory. But don't make it too complicated. You don't HAVE to find all the "right" conditions of the sun and moon all happening at the same time. Sure it's ideal for all the "heavenly events" to line up, but you can increase your success simply by following the basics. Try out some of the simplest methods described above, then add in other more complex combinations of moon data. Try it and see the results YOU get. Take notes on your findings. QuickPhase was also made to easily do your own research on the ideal times, versus blindly following what someone else thinks is correct. Following the basic theory as outlined above also allows your trips to be more flexible instead of trying to time your trips to the minute. Questions? If you poke around the software, you will easily see how the program flags new and full moons, and where it provides moonrise and moonset times, and moon position. The software is meant to be intuitive for that information. Also, please read the Help Screen (inside the software) before you contact customer support. |
